Don’t Get the Common Cold

Everybody knows that, if you wish to stay healthy, you should take in enough Vitamin C. Everybody is always talking about just how much Vitamin C will help somebody. When you get the flu, what is the first thing folks say to you? “Eat some Vitamin C!” Today, though, there is a tiny bit of concern over if Vitamin C would stop the common cold at all.

You’ve heard of Echinacea before now. The idea is that, if you take an Echinacea product whenever you feel a cold setting in, you can keep it from really grabbing hold of you. In recent years, however, a growing number of studies have revealed that Echinacea is not much more than a placebo effect for people suffering from the common cold. At most the supplement cuts the cold’s length by twenty hours. That’s hardly a cure.

How do you keep the colds from getting the better of you? Here are a number of hints to actually give you a hand.

1. Keep your hands and wrists clean. Wash the hands often. This is perhaps the finest and most efficient way to keep the common cold at a distance. How come this is so productive? Think over it for just a second. Your hands may get contact with flu and cold bacterias than any other part of your body. Think of all of the items you touch during a day. Every time you feel something that has already been touched by someone with the flu, you grow your chances of getting sick. If you clean your hands a lot, you will be far less likely to let any of the germs that you have made contact with get into your system and grab hold.

2. Get lots and lots of rest. It’s tempting, especially when times are anxious, to stay up later. Maybe you would like to complete a lot more. Maybe you want to go out with your close friends. Perhaps you really want to watch a show on television. Doing this, however, significantly reduces the rest you receive. You need to give the body enough rest so that it will have the vitality to fight off any infections that want to set in. It is while you are sleeping and resting that the system is able to do the maintenance and repairs that you need to do. The more sleep you get, the easier a time the body will have preventing an infection and then getting rid of it if it happens to take hold of you anyway.

3. Remain hydrated. Your body demands a minimum of eight eight ounce glasses of water every day to be healthy. Your body requires the hydration to help it eradicate the toxins that have taken up residence in your system. If you haven’t been effectively hydrated the germs in your system will only hang out and get tougher instead of being forced out. Do not forget: your body can last about 7 days without eating solid food. Without water, you will only last a day or two. This on it’s own should make you realize just how important proper hydration is.

Here’s the thing: there isn’t a magical solution for the flu. All you have is your individual common sense and good preventative procedures like keeping clean, resting a lot and drinking a good amount of water.
